Year after year this flower pops through the soil. It's not meant to be. Yes it is a perennial, which means it blooms every year, but I removed (or so I thought) all these bulbs from this area and yet here it is. Somehow it remained and still blooms even though I redid this flower bed by placing plastic and stone on it but it still makes it through anyways.
The most amazing thing is that my mom who has passed away planted that bulb many years ago while in the midst of her Pics disease (a form of dementia). This disease takes your mind slowly then your body. It was a long suffering 14 years. She was diagnosed as she was turning 60. The age that I am now.
She loved flowers and was very good at caring for them, nurturing and keeping them alive. She looked forward to receiving her magazine that she would scour through and order her bulbs from. As her dementia progressed she was no longer able to do her normal things so I helped her to carefully go through the magazine and choose bulbs for me to plant at my home. I had her come and help me to place them in the ground. As I was sitting on my front porch and noticed the flower, I thought well there it is again. I had such a happy thought and a warm feeling knowing that my mother's hands had touched those bulbs as she placed them in that soil.
Then a deep sadness came over me as I wished that she were still her to enjoy that flower with me. Oh how I longed and prayed for her to be healed from this terrible disease. The days, weeks, months and years of struggle and sadness were unbearable at times. God did answer my prayers as He choose to heal her on the other side. She now lives in wholeness in Heaven with Him and the other Christians who have gone on before, including my infant son.
So thank you Lord for allowing this single bulb to burst forth each year and remind me of my mom and her love for the beauty of this earth that you have created for us to enjoy. As I feel your presence in your creation, I also sense her spirit each time that I get to enjoy this flower. I appreciate her love and care for me.
What an abundant life that you have given us not only here on this earth but your plan for us in eternity when we receive you as Lord and Savior.
“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah”
